About the position

Hamamatsu, a leading supplier of advanced light detectors and detector systems, is seeking an Applications/Software Engineer to join our team in Bridgewater, NJ. This role is pivotal in providing technical support and product recommendations to a diverse customer base, including Fortune 100 companies, top research labs, and innovative startups. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing customer satisfaction and maintaining Hamamatsu's reputation through effective communication and problem-solving skills. The Applications/Software Engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting hardware interfacing issues, analyzing software logs, and providing timely quotations to end users and universities. This position requires making initial contact with web leads, qualifying them based on their potential sales value, and understanding their specific applications. The engineer will also conduct product testing in an electrical lab setting, utilizing standard laboratory equipment to evaluate product performance and develop custom applications as needed. In addition to technical support, the engineer will create and update technical procedures for product operation, participate in marketing and sales projects, and prepare demo presentations for trade shows. This includes building setups, ensuring operational functionality, and training trade show staff. The role also involves direct interaction with customers at trade shows to introduce products and gather insights about their projects, further qualifying leads for the sales team. Continuous improvement of product knowledge and participation in special projects for rapid software prototyping are also key aspects of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and product recommendations to end users and universities.
  • Troubleshoot hardware interfacing issues and analyze software logs.
  • Make initial contact with web leads and qualify them based on sales potential.
  • Test products in an electrical lab setting to evaluate performance.
  • Create, update, and revise technical procedures for product operation.
  • Participate in marketing and sales projects, including preparing demo presentations for trade shows.
  • Interact with customers at trade shows to introduce products and qualify leads.
  • Develop specialized product knowledge through individual training and provide market information to Sales/Marketing/customers.
  • Engage in special projects assigned by the Rapid Design Group for software prototyping.

Requirements

  • 4-year technical degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering or related engineering field.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated follow-through skills.
  • Knowledge of Intel PC architecture.
  • Ability to travel 10%, including international travel.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows GUI's and device interaction.
  • Knowledge of C/C++/C# programming languages.
