Applications Support Specialist

About the position

The Applications Support Specialist I at Boston Children's Hospital is responsible for establishing and maintaining departmental desktop computer networks, providing support and training for computer system applications, and developing user documentation. This role involves responding to user requests, monitoring help desk issues, facilitating equipment/software installations, managing system security, and assisting with electronic learning resources. The position requires effective communication and analytical skills to resolve complex problems and implement departmental policies.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain a departmental desktop computer network.
• Provide support and training for departmental computer system applications.
• Develop and prepare user documentation and training materials.
• Respond to requests from departmental users for information or assistance regarding network and/or application problems.
• Monitor, resolve, or escalate help desk issues as appropriate.
• Facilitate installation of new equipment/software.
• Manage system security and issue access as appropriate.
• Assist in integrating departmental desktop computers and participate in testing and implementing systems installations and upgrades.
• Integrate departmental presentation needs via the network.
• Assist with electronic learning resources.
• Monitor work queues to identify trends and problem areas.
• Develop and recommend changes in departmental policies and procedures.
• Communicate new policies and procedures to staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in computer science or a closely related field.
• Analytical skills to resolve complex problems using scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
• Communication skills to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions.
