About the position

The Applications System Administrator - Linux role at BAE Systems is a fully remote position focused on customer support, application operational and security monitoring, and system maintenance. The administrator will be responsible for enhancing application performance, managing system interfaces, and ensuring compliance with operational and security standards. The role requires collaboration with business customers and technical teams, emphasizing effective communication and modernization of applications to improve efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer support for application operational and security monitoring.
  • Perform Operations & Maintenance (O&M) tasks including system maintenance, upgrades, and patching.
  • Identify issues, troubleshoot, and develop resolutions for application problems.
  • Test and deploy solutions while maintaining operational and security compliance documentation.
  • Engage with business customers and technologists to understand requirements and provide solutions.
  • Guide modernization efforts for applications, including consolidation and replacement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Five years of experience as a Linux Applications Systems Administrator.
  • US Citizenship or Green Card holder.
  • Two years of experience in Linux server administration.
  • Ability to configure application environments based on customer requirements.
  • Experience supporting web-based applications and knowledge of Internet protocols (REST, HTTP, SMTP, SOAP, SSL, TLS).
  • Experience in design, implementation, and O&M support of client/server applications with databases.
  • Monitoring experience with web hosting middleware (e.g., Apache Tomcat, WebLogic, JBoss/WildFly).
  • Proficiency in PL/SQL, Windows server scripting (batch, PowerShell), and Unix shell scripting (Bourne, BASH, CSH, TSH).

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in US Defense Contracting.
  • Working knowledge of DFARS, NIST SP 800-171, NIST SP 800-53, and CMMC security controls.
  • Experience with systems architecture documentation using Visio.
  • Ability to troubleshoot memory, storage, and connectivity issues.
  • Experience with TCP packet analysis using WireShark.
