About the position

The Applications System Administrator - Linux position at BAE Systems is a fully remote role focused on customer support, application operational and security monitoring, and system maintenance. The role involves enhancing application performance, managing system interfaces, and ensuring compliance with operational and security standards. The candidate will engage with business customers and collaborate with technical teams to modernize applications, improving overall efficiency and effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer support for application operational and security monitoring.
  • Perform Operations & Maintenance (O&M) tasks including system maintenance, upgrades, and patching.
  • Identify issues, troubleshoot, and develop resolutions for application problems.
  • Test and deploy application updates and enhancements.
  • Produce and maintain operational and security compliance documentation.
  • Engage with business customers and technologists to gather requirements and provide solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Five years of experience as a Linux Applications Systems Administrator.
  • US Citizenship or Green Card holder.
  • Two years of experience in Linux server administration.
  • Ability to configure application environments based on customer requirements.
  • Experience supporting web-based applications and knowledge of Internet protocols such as REST, HTTP, SMTP, SOAP, SSL, and TLS.
  • Experience in design, implementation, and O&M support of client/server applications with databases.
  • Monitoring experience with web hosting middleware like Apache Tomcat, WebLogic, and JBoss/WildFly.
  • Proficiency in PL/SQL, Windows server scripting (batch, PowerShell), and Unix shell scripting (Bourne, BASH, CSH, TSH).

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in US Defense Contracting.
  • Working knowledge of DFARS, NIST SP 800-171, NIST SP 800-53, and CMMC security controls.
  • Experience with systems architecture documentation using Visio.
  • Ability to troubleshoot memory, storage, and connectivity issues.
  • Experience with TCP packet analysis using WireShark.
