About the position

The Application Engineer at L. S. Starrett Co. plays a crucial role in serving clients by identifying their needs and providing technical advice on products. This position involves collaboration with a team of engineers, machinists, and designers, and requires overseeing projects from initial customer contact through to manufacturing and inspection. The engineer will provide custom gaging solutions and ensure that all aspects of the job are executed efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

• Identifies current and future customer requirements by providing quotes and custom gaging solutions.
• Provides technical and engineering information about products, services, or equipment.
• Travels to customer sites and supplier locations as needed.
• Reviews prints and applies basic knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
• Creates Bill of Materials, shop routings, and inspection processes.
• Troubleshoots issues at all stages of projects.
• Collaborates with purchasing and production control to ensure goods remain on schedule.
• Provides reports on current projects and timelines using Smartsheet and MS Office.

Requirements

• Customer service skills
• Oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency in MS Office, Smartsheet, and CAD
• Technical knowledge of manufacturing processes
• Basic print reading and GD&T knowledge
• Manual machining experience is a plus
