The Appraiser I position within the Clayton County Tax Assessor's office is responsible for determining the fair market value of residential and personal property within Clayton County. This role involves a variety of essential functions that contribute to the accurate assessment of property values for taxation purposes. The appraiser will physically locate parcels and properties, determine parcel numbers, and verify personal property business accounts. They will also measure and sketch new constructions and properties being audited, noting any changes that occur. The appraiser is expected to review business reports, tax rolls, and other tax documents to ensure accuracy in property assessments. In addition to property assessments, the appraiser will assist taxpayers both in the field and in the office, explaining Homestead and taxing procedures. They will prepare assessment notices, compare values, and check sales ratios, preparing necessary documentation for the Board of Equalization and Superior Court. The role requires calculating land and property values, troubleshooting returns of value, and negotiating directly with taxpayers to obtain value agreements. The appraiser will also be responsible for maintaining a County vehicle and supplies while performing appraisal duties, as well as researching deeds and managing property splits and combinations. The position also includes attending meetings, training sessions, and continuing education courses to stay updated on appraisal practices and regulations. The appraiser will gather and submit information to the Soil Conservation department and maintain contact with the Permits and Licenses Department. Additional functions of the role include general clerical work such as copying, filing, answering phones, and assisting taxpayers at the front desk. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.
