About the position

The Apprentice B position at The Desoto Group, LLC is designed for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in the electrical field, specifically in power line construction and maintenance. Under the guidance of experienced linemen, apprentices will learn essential skills and safety practices necessary to progress towards becoming a journeyman lineman. This full-time role involves on-the-job training, assisting with various tasks, and adhering to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Receive hands-on training from experienced linemen, learning about electrical theory, safety practices, and various linework techniques.
• Assist experienced linemen in their daily tasks, including pole setting, wire installation, and equipment maintenance.
• Participate in safety training programs to develop a strong understanding of safety procedures and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Learn to maintain and care for tools and equipment used in linework.
• Follow the directions of experienced linemen and adhere to safety guidelines.
• Gain a basic understanding of electrical theory, including concepts such as voltage, current, and resistance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid commercial driver's license and medical card.
• Completion of a recognized lineman apprenticeship program or equivalent experience.
• Strong mechanical and electrical skills.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions and confined spaces.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Strong communication, positive attitude, and teamwork skills.
