About the position

The Apprentice Equipment Technician at Western States Equipment Company is responsible for performing basic maintenance and repair on heavy equipment under the supervision of experienced technicians. This role focuses on developing skills in diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of various equipment systems, ensuring adherence to safety standards and company policies.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic maintenance and heavy equipment repair under supervision.
• Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) prior to job tasks.
• Assist with troubleshooting and diagnosing machine failures.
• Complete engine preventative maintenance and inspect/repair components.
• Perform preventative maintenance on powertrain systems.
• Test, repair, and replace basic electrical components.
• Conduct basic hydraulic systems maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Participate in continued education and training initiatives.
• Utilize service manuals to address technical issues and perform tasks.
• Write and read service reports for files and warranty purposes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate's degree in diesel technology or equivalent experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
• Basic computer and typing skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a Caterpillar or similar environment.
• Ability to obtain job-related certifications for specialty equipment.
• Familiarity with manufacturer-specific software (SIS, ET, STW).
