About The Position

The Apprentice Line Tech position at Surry-Yadkin Electric Membership Corporation is a full-time role focused on learning and performing various line work tasks under the supervision of a Class A Line Technician. Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent; electrical line school highly preferred.
• Must reside within 30 miles of SYEMC office.
• Ability and willingness to learn line work and related duties.
• Ability to maintain records for time worked and materials used.
• Must be able to work at heights and meet safety requirements.
• Willingness to work on an on-call basis, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds safely.

Responsibilities

• Learn and perform all types of related line work including material, inventory, and warehouse duties.
• Interpret maps, specifications, staking sheets, and complex diagrams.
• Maintain records for time worked and materials used.
• Ascend/descend/work at heights while meeting safety requirements.
• Work on an on-call basis, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Obtain a Class A CDL license within 6 months of employment.
• Test Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and understand its ratings.
• Follow rules for the minimum approach distance (MADD zone).
• Conduct inspections of poles for safety, including sound checking and visual checks.
• Exhibit proficient climbing techniques with a Class A Line Technician present.
• Secure job sites properly using traffic cones and barricading trucks.
• Perform preflight inspections and operate line and bucket trucks efficiently.
• Operate ground controls on bucket trucks.
• Maintain knowledge of first-aid, safety rules, line materials, and tools.
• Work and maintain line truck as required by Crew Supervisor.
• Perform Pole Top Rescue and Bucket Rescue as needed.
• Begin de-energized underground maintenance and pad mount work with supervision.
• Attend ongoing training as required.
