About The Position

The Apprentice Lineman I position is an entry-level role under supervision, focused on learning and performing electrical line construction, maintenance, and repair tasks. The role involves assisting in various activities related to overhead and underground electrical systems, ensuring safety and compliance with electrical codes.

Requirements

• Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of experience as a helper on a power line construction and maintenance crew or relevant education and experience.
• Valid Current Class A Commercial Driver's License.
• Physical Exam Required.

Nice To Haves

• Basic courses in lineman school and electricity is desirable.
• Knowledge of one line diagrams is desirable.
• A minimum of six months experience in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution line is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground systems from either pole or aerial lift device.
• Assists in restoring overhead and underground outages.
• Assists in performing line patrol.
• Assists with the installation of transformers, switches, reclosers, capacitors, meters and other electrical apparatus.
• Digs poles and anchor holes, frames and sets poles and anchors, installs guy wires, sags, and ties in conductors.
• Installs service. Connects, disconnects and reconnects as assigned.
• Assists with streetlight installation and maintenance.
• Repairs and replaces service drops as required.
• Reads, changes, installs and seals meters as assigned.
• Becomes familiar with the electric distribution system feeds and circuits.
• Trims trees and cuts brush on right of way as assigned.
• Completes outage reports; material tickets; connects, disconnects, or reconnects orders as required.
• Operates equipment as needed.
• Oversees the safe work practices of employees of lower classification assigned to work with this position.
• Performs on call duty as required.
• Responsible for following all safety policies and procedures.
