About the position

The Apprentice Lineman position at Entergy involves constructing, building, and maintaining overhead (OH) and underground (UG) electric facilities with primary voltages up to 15KV. This role is essential for ensuring the reliability and safety of electrical services provided to customers. The apprentice will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include the installation, removal, and maintenance of OH/UG primary line facilities and secondary services. This includes the installation of transformers, wiring of transformer banks, and the installation of regulators, capacitors, and reclosers. The position requires the operation of various types of trucks and equipment, such as Aerial Bucket and Digger Derrick Trucks, which are crucial for performing linework safely and efficiently. In addition to technical skills, the apprentice must be able to read and understand job prints and sketches, recognize materials and their functions, and set and climb poles in various environments, including open areas and energized lines. The role also requires availability for on-call duty and emergency response, which is critical in maintaining service continuity during outages or emergencies. The position is physically demanding, requiring the ability to work in all weather conditions and to perform tasks that require physical strength. The apprentice will work irregular hours and may be assigned to out-of-town projects as needed. Candidates must live within 20 miles of the work location to be considered for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, removal and maintenance of OH/UG primary line facilities and secondary services.
  • Installation of OH/UG transformers and the wiring of all types of transformer banks.
  • Installation, including the wiring of regulators, capacitors, and reclosers.
  • Driving of different sizes and types of trucks.
  • Operation of various pieces of equipment, including Aerial Bucket and Digger Derrick Trucks.
  • Read and understand job prints and sketches.
  • Recognize material(s) and their function.
  • Setting and climbing of all sizes of poles in open areas, rear alleys and in energized lines.
  • Be available for on call duty and emergency response.

Requirements

  • Must live within 20 miles of work location.
  • Ability to use physical strength to perform required tasks in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and out of town assignments as required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to take and understand directives and complete tasks with limited supervision.
  • Completion of an accredited Lineworker Training program OR prior demonstrated linework experience required for Apprentice 1st Year.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated linework experience required for Apprentice 2nd Year.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated linework experience required for Apprentice 3rd Year.
  • 4+ years of demonstrated linework experience required for Apprentice 4th Year.
