About the position

The Borough of Chambersburg is seeking an Apprentice Lineworker B for the Electric Department. This position involves performing a wide range of electrical repair, maintenance, and installation duties on transmission and distribution systems. The role requires working under the supervision of the Electric Distribution Supervisor and Lead Lineworkers, and includes responsibilities such as responding to emergencies, performing scheduled overtime, and assisting in training lower-class lineworkers. The position is designated as safety-sensitive and requires adherence to safety protocols while working on energized systems and using various tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical repair, maintenance, and installation duties on transmission and distribution systems.
  • Work scheduled hours, afterhours in emergencies, and scheduled overtime.
  • Use plans, diagrams, and manufacturer's instructions to complete tasks.
  • Advise, assist, and train lower class lineworkers and other crew members.
  • Operate digger derricks and other equipment for various tasks.
  • Participate in safety meetings and ensure safety measures are followed.
  • Respond to emergencies and report unusual conditions to supervision.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and account for materials used on the job.
  • Support the Borough with electrification and other facility work.

Requirements

  • Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License with a clean driving record for at least three years.
  • Obtain Class A CDL with air brake endorsement within the probationary period.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification within the first six months of employment.
  • Residency within 45 driving miles of Borough Hall within one year of hire.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in electrical linework with at least 1 year in Lineworker C or equivalent.
  • Completion of required safety training and electrical theory instruction.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with various associated equipment and tools such as bucket trucks and aerial lifts.
  • Completion of additional training modules related to linework.
