About the position

The Apprentice Lineworker position at Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative is a four-year apprenticeship program designed to train individuals in the installation, maintenance, operation, and inspection of electrical overhead and underground distribution facilities. The role involves hands-on learning under the supervision of experienced lineworkers, with a focus on safety, teamwork, and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical distribution facilities.
  • Perform groundwork while learning line skills under the supervision of a Journeyman Lineworker.
  • Observe and participate in safety procedures, including Pole Top and Bucket Truck Rescue.
  • Assist in loading, hauling, and delivering poles to the proper location.
  • Learn to read and record meter readings and assist in the installation and change-out of meters and transformers.
  • Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment and assist in framing and setting poles and structures.
  • Participate in scheduled safety meetings and promote safety in every activity.
  • Support during major outages as directed and maintain company vehicles.

Requirements

  • High school or vocational school graduate or GED with emphasis in science, mechanics, and mathematics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate computers and various software programs proficiently.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 75 pounds and climbing poles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Class 'A' CDL preferred.
  • First-aid and CPR training.
