About the position

The Apprentice - Outside Machinist position at Oceaneering is a structured apprenticeship program designed to provide practical training in a skilled trade. This four-year program combines on-the-job training with related instruction, requiring a minimum of 2000 hours of work experience and 144 hours of classroom instruction each year. The role involves learning to repair, modify, and overhaul various types of equipment and systems, with a focus on shipboard mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Learning and conducting the repair, modification, or overhaul of various types of equipment or systems.
  • Assisting in the setup and operation of portable machining tools or equipment.
  • Performing job functions under the direct supervision of a Mentor or Senior Craftsman.
  • Demonstrating the ability to learn and perform equipment modifications in accordance with drawing requirements.
  • Developing a working knowledge of shipboard mechanical systems and blueprint reading.
  • Maintaining safety and quality workmanship as core ethics.
  • Completing additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have a high school education (advanced math or vocational/technical skills are a plus).
  • Be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the job.
  • Be able to obtain a Security Clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen who is not a dual citizen of any other country.
  • Take the Virginia Placement Test and have those results for the job interview.
  • Take a knowledge and practical skills test prior to the job interview.
  • Maintain a cumulative 'B' average in college classes.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
