About the position

The Apprentice - Purchasing position at Salt Lake City Corp is designed for individuals eager to learn about procurement and contract management within the Finance department. This part-time role involves hands-on training, participation in workshops, and collaboration with the existing team to support public initiatives and enhance procurement processes.

Responsibilities

  • Review and understand Code and Policy related to purchasing and contracts.
  • Conduct basic purchases from statewide cooperative contracts and procurements below the posting requirement.
  • Notify contract managers of contract expiration and guide them on submitting new requests.
  • Contact vendors regarding expiring insurance and request updated insurance.
  • Audit purchases from contracted vendors.
  • Build trainings for City employees and assist with new initiatives such as the Emergency Procurement Program.
  • Acquire specialized skills under the tutelage of experienced mentors.
  • Attend workshops and participate in various learning opportunities.
  • Assist within the relevant department while also learning about other aspects of the city.
  • Observe health and safety procedures.
  • Complete all tests, presentations, and other required evaluations.
  • Positively receive feedback.
  • Attend meetings and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Keep a log of everything learned.
  • Build professional relationships with colleagues, leaders, and the general public.
