The Lineworker Apprentice position is designed for individuals to develop the necessary technical skills for constructing, installing, and maintaining high and low voltage electric distribution systems. The role involves hands-on work under supervision, focusing on safety and compliance with established regulations while progressing through various classifications in linework.

  • Construct, install, and maintain overhead and underground lines, transformers, and associated equipment.
  • Safely climb poles and work at heights.
  • Dig pole and anchor holes and assist in setting, removing, and transporting poles.
  • Perform maintenance on distribution and service poles and de-energized attachments.
  • Install cross-arms, secondary racks, anchors, and guys, as well as hardware and fittings for vertical construction.
  • Perform minor vehicle maintenance and schedule major repairs with the Lead Mechanic.
  • Enroll in and complete the state-approved Apprentice Line Maintainer training program and company educational requirements.
  • Act in a safe and courteous manner to promote good public relations.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment maintenance principles.
  • Basic knowledge of hazardous material handling and environmental regulations.
  • Valid Vermont driver's license with a suitable driving record for insurability.
  • Completion of Class A Commercial Driver's License within 180 days after hire.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Math skills (algebra) and computer skills (MS Office Suite, CAD, Oracle Time Entry).
  • Ability to serve and satisfy internal and external customers.
  • Completion of a Lineworker College certificate program or equivalent experience.
