About the position
The Aquatic Biologist 1 position at the Department of Environmental Protection involves evaluating, interpreting, and implementing aquatic biological sciences within the Clean Water Program. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with water management regulations in the Northeast Region of Pennsylvania, with responsibilities that include laboratory analyses, field studies, and providing expert recommendations to mitigate water pollution.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed microscopic and laboratory analyses of biological samples.
- Identify, quantify, and classify organisms based on their tolerance to pollution.
- Conduct extensive field studies to assess the impact of waste discharges on aquatic life.
- Carry out surveys of streams, rivers, ponds, and lakes following established protocols.
- Provide expert aquatic biological recommendations to Regional and Central Office personnel.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in biological science, natural science, environmental science, or natural resource management with six college credits in relevant aquatic science coursework.
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six college credits in relevant aquatic science coursework.
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle license.
- Ability to meet the PA residency requirement.
