About the position

King County Parks is seeking an Aquatic Facility Coordinator Assistant to join the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center (WKCAC) team! In this role, you will help influence and contribute to WKCAC Team accomplishments, guide and grow the skills of staff under your leadership, and positively impact the health and wellbeing of pool patrons while contributing to the mission and goals of King County Parks. We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as an Aquatic Facility Coordinator Assistant. In this role, you will play a key part in the development and coordination of aquatic programs, ensuring they run smoothly and effectively. You will also be responsible for lifeguarding, providing instruction, and assisting with the recruitment and hiring of aquatic staff. Additionally, you will coordinate event support, ensuring all activities are well-organized and executed. The Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center is one of the premier natatorium arenas in the nation. This 2,500-seat indoor facility hosts more than 50 events annually including top national and international championships. In addition to these competitions, WKCAC serves the local and regional community through team trainings and a full array of recreational programming. As an Aquatic Facility Coordinator Assistant, you will actively apply principles of equity, racial and social justice in all aspects of your work, ensuring that our programs align with King County's commitment to creating a welcoming community where everyone can thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and coordinating the facility's aquatic recreation programs, ensuring alignment with King County equity priorities and addressing local and regional community needs.
  • Assist with managing day-to-day operations and participate in facility inspections, basic maintenance, and event staging.
  • Lifeguard recreation programs and events as scheduled.
  • Teach swim lessons to individuals of all ages; teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding, and other applicable certification classes.
  • Train staff on facility procedures and protocols and assist in preparing and conducting in-service trainings for aquatic staff.
  • Build teams, supervise, coach and mentor staff.
  • Implement best practices for workplace expectations and performance.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to all patrons and staff, fostering positive relationships with the public and user groups.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of local safety and health codes and regulations for public swimming facilities.
  • Knowledge of American Red Cross Learn to Swim, Lifeguarding, and Safety courses and best practices.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with national aquatic sports standards for facilities, equipment and course configurations.
  • Ability to educate the public in the rules and policies of the Aquatic Center.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers and to handle difficult situations using discretion, patience, and professionalism.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to positively interact with a variety of people in a diverse work environment.
