About the position

The Aquatics Program Manager at the JCC of Mid-Westchester is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the aquatics department, ensuring a high-quality experience for participants in swim programs and related activities. This role involves managing staff, developing and implementing programs, and promoting water safety in a welcoming environment. The manager will work closely with the Aquatics Director and swim instructors to enhance the swim program and maintain compliance with health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the Aquatics department.
  • Organize day-to-day operations and special projects, developing policies and procedures for program areas.
  • Implement all program activities, ensuring effective management of time slots and client needs.
  • Evaluate programs to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain a positive culture with staff and patrons to ensure high standards in programs and lessons.
  • Manage the ongoing progression of all children in the program and incorporate parent feedback.
  • Stay informed on trends and programs that may affect JCC programs.
  • Maintain and organize accurate data.
  • Complete other duties assigned by the Aquatics Director.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty at least 2 nights a week and 1 weekend day.
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate swim instructors.
  • Coordinate scheduling of swim instructors and lifeguard staff to ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Stay up to date on required certifications for self and staff.
  • Participate in and lead staff meetings to establish departmental goals and maintain safety standards.
  • Provide training to new instructors and work on the ongoing development of swim teachers.
  • Ensure staff adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Lifeguard and teach swim lessons when necessary.
  • Ensure the pool is maintained to Department of Health Standards and comply with safety regulations.
  • Assist with pool maintenance, including cleanliness and chemistry control.
  • Monitor program registrations and process refunds/credits.
  • Provide daily and weekly reports to the Aquatics Director.
  • Manage communication with the community regarding policies and programs.
  • Work with marketing to promote aquatic programs and participate in community events.
  • Build positive relationships with members, parents, and staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years teaching swim lessons.
  • CPR and AED Certification (required).
  • Current certified pool operator (or certification to be obtained within 3 months of hire).
  • Experience with American Red Cross Learn to Swim program.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment as part of a team.
  • Supervisory skills including goal setting, training, and providing constructive feedback.

Nice-to-haves

  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification preferred.
  • Experience with a customer relations database is a plus.
