About The Position

The Arabic Consecutive Linguist at Leidos will provide essential language support services, including interpretation, translation, and transcription, to assist defense counsels in conducting interviews of detainees and witnesses for Military Commissions hearings. This role is critical in ensuring accurate communication and documentation in legal proceedings, primarily based in Arlington, VA, with significant work at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Requirements

• BA/BS degree or equivalent formal military training, or 5+ years of related work experience.
• Achieve a minimum score of ILR 3 in Arabic and English for Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing, with a preference for 3+.
• Demonstrated history of working on translation projects while maintaining the integrity of the translated material.
• Ability to write and speak clearly and professionally in both Arabic and English.
• Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Must currently possess a minimum TS/SCI clearance.

Nice To Haves

• Background or experience in the military or Defense Language Institute (DLI).
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Native-level proficiency in Arabic.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpretation, translation, and transcription support for defense legal teams.
• Assist in conducting interviews of detainees and witnesses for courtrooms and case preparation.
• Review general and technical source material in Arabic to prepare accurate written translations and transcriptions in English.
• Transcribe audio/video discovery material into English accurately.
• Interpret in consecutive mode during legal proceedings, ensuring the original message is conveyed accurately after the speaker pauses.
• Translate documents from English to Arabic and vice versa, maintaining the integrity and meaning of the material.
