About the position

The Crew Foreperson at Lewis Tree Service is responsible for leading a team in utility vegetation management, focusing on tree trimming, removal, and safety practices. This role emphasizes teamwork, communication, and adaptability while ensuring the safety of crew members and the public. The position requires a strong understanding of arboriculture and the ability to operate various tools and equipment in diverse outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a crew to create and promote a positive team environment.
  • Interpret tree trimming, removal, and spraying orders from the General Foreman or customer representative.
  • Plan and layout daily work for the crew considering various factors such as time, equipment, and weather conditions.
  • Perform a Pre-Job Hazard Survey at each job site and assign work tasks based on crew members' skills.
  • Conduct line clearing and tree trimming duties for utility customers, including pruning and removing at-risk trees.
  • Climb trees and operate a bucket for trimming and removals near power lines.
  • Prepare, operate, and maintain tools and equipment including chainsaws and aerial lifts.
  • Remove limbs and brush, and clean up debris after work is completed.
  • Mix and apply spray chemicals to preserve desirable vegetation.
  • Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in the working area and enforce safety practices.

Requirements

  • Two years or more experience as a Trimmer/Climber around utility lines.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead a team.
  • Knowledge of tree identification, growth habits, and correct arboriculture techniques.
  • Experience in tree climbing, knot tying, and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Understanding of drawings and symbols related to utility lines and equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. to shoulder height.
  • Capable of operating two-handed equipment such as chainsaws.

Nice-to-haves
