About the position

The Top Trimmer/Climber position at Lewis involves working in a team environment to perform utility vegetation management tasks, including tree trimming and line clearing. This role is essential for ensuring safety and reliability in utility services while promoting a culture of collaboration and respect among team members.

Responsibilities

  • Perform line clearing and tree trimming duties for utility customers, including pruning treetops and limbs.
  • Climb trees and operate a 40 ft bucket for trimming and removals in and above power lines.
  • Prepare, operate, and maintain all tools and equipment, including hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
  • Remove limbs and brush, and clean up and dispose of debris.
  • Mix and apply spray chemicals to preserve desirable vegetation.
  • Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the working area, enforcing on-the-job safety practices.

Requirements

  • Three years or more experience working as a Trimmer and Climber, particularly around utility lines.
  • Ability to operate a 40 ft bucket for trimming and removals in and above power lines.
  • Knowledge of trees, including identification, growth habits, and correct arboriculture techniques.
  • Experience in tree climbing, knot tying, and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. to shoulder height or more.
  • Capable of operating two-handed equipment such as chainsaws and circular saws, and endure extreme climate variances.
  • Willingness to obtain specialized training and certifications as required, including local, state, and federal licenses.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test and job duty skills tests.
  • Possess a valid Driver License or Commercial Driver's License.
