About the position

The Trimmer/Climber position at Lewis involves working outdoors in a team environment to perform utility vegetation management tasks, including tree trimming and line clearing. The role emphasizes safety, collaboration, and adaptability, with a focus on empowering employees and fostering a diverse workplace.

Responsibilities

• Perform line clearing and tree trimming duties for utility customers, including pruning treetops and limbs.
• Trim or remove at-risk/damaged trees and remove broken limbs from wires, roofs, etc.
• Operate a bucket for trimming and removals in and above power lines.
• Prepare, operate, and maintain all tools and equipment, including hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
• Remove limbs and brush, and clean up and dispose of debris.
• Mix and apply spray chemicals to preserve desirable vegetation.
• Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the working area and help enforce on-the-job safety practices.

Requirements

• At least one year's experience working as a Climber-Trimmer around utility wires.
• Knowledge of trees, including identification, growth habits, and correct arboriculture techniques for trimming, pruning, and maintaining trees near energized conductors.
• Experience in tree climbing, knot tying, and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. to shoulder height or more.
• Capable of operating two-handed equipment such as chainsaws and circular saws, and endure extreme climate variances.
• Willingness to obtain specialized training and certifications as required, including local, state, and federal licenses.
• Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications.
• Valid Driver's License.
