About the position

The Trimmer Trainee position at Lewis Tree Service is designed for individuals who are passionate about working outdoors and are eager to learn the skills necessary for tree trimming and utility vegetation management. This role involves participating in a climbing skills training program, working collaboratively within a team, and performing essential tasks related to tree trimming and maintenance for utility customers. Responsibilities

  • Participate in an innovative climbing skills training program.
  • Work as part of a tight-knit crew in a team environment.
  • Perform line clearing and tree trimming duties for utility customers, including pruning trees and limbs, trimming or removing trees, and removing broken limbs from wires and roofs.
  • Climb trees for manual trimming and removals in and above power lines.
  • Prepare, operate, and maintain all tools and equipment, including hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
  • Remove limbs and brush, and clean up and dispose of debris.
  • Mix and apply spray chemicals to preserve desirable vegetation.
  • Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the working area, and help enforce on-the-job safety practices.

Requirements

  • At least six months of experience as a crew member or equivalent, working around utility wires.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting a minimum of 50 lbs to shoulder height or more.
  • Capable of operating two-handed equipment such as chainsaws and circular saws, and endure extreme climate variances.
  • Willingness to obtain specialized training and certifications as required, such as tree species identification and local, state, and federal licenses.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR cards.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test and job duty skills tests.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Driver's License.
