About the position

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Archaeological Manager 1 (Principal Investigator) to provide expertise in cultural resources management, particularly in the southwestern United States. This role involves directing investigations, ensuring compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act, and maintaining quality client services while growing the cultural resource business.

Responsibilities

  • Directs GAI personnel and sub-consultants in cultural resources investigations, records reviews, archival research, ethnographic research, field surveys, testing, report writing, agency and Tribal consultations, and archaeological data recoveries.
  • Provides guidance to internal staff, sub-consultants, and clients on complex cultural resource issues.
  • Assists the director in developing solutions for regulatory situations related to NHPA compliance.
  • Identifies and communicates potential project constraints during planning phases.
  • Serves as a primary interface between GAI and regulatory agencies and Tribal interests.
  • Assists in integrating cultural resource staff and sub-consultants into project teams.
  • Works with project managers to develop proposals and maintain budget, scope, and schedule controls.
  • Travels to project locations up to 50% of the time, including extended stays.
  • Develops and presents technical papers at conferences or in journals.
  • Collaborates with other departments to implement marketing plans for the cultural resources group.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in archaeology or a related field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in cultural resource management and consulting.
  • Listed in the Register of Professional Archaeologists.
  • Understanding of multi-discipline characteristics within the cultural resource profession.
  • Knowledge of federal and state cultural resource laws and regulations, including NHPA and ARPA.
  • Understanding of the relationship between Federal Actions and NHPA, and integration with other environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of archaeological issues and methodologies in the southwestern United States.
  • Ability to obtain at least two PI permits at state and federal level.
