About the position

The Archaeologist II position at AECOM involves overseeing archaeological field efforts, managing a team of field technicians, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The role requires knowledge of excavation techniques, artifact identification, and the ability to document and report findings accurately. The position emphasizes health and safety protocols and involves travel for monitoring projects across the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Phase I, II, and III archaeological field efforts.
  • Manage a crew of archaeological field technicians.
  • Travel for archaeological monitoring projects.
  • Assist in scoping archaeological projects using GIS and site records.
  • Maintain relevant State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) documentation.
  • Provide regulatory compliance support for various clients.
  • Serve as Field Director and direct field crews under the Principal Investigator's guidance.
  • Work independently as an archaeological monitor on construction sites.
  • Document cultural features thoroughly without assistance.
  • Support all phases of archaeological investigation and regulatory compliance.
  • Write archaeological reports and prepare site forms.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to ensure project quality standards are met.
  • Perform manual labor including excavation and moving materials.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Anthropology or related field.
  • 2 years of related experience in archaeological fieldwork and analysis.
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • US Citizenship is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience (e.g., Archaeological Supervisor/Field Director).
  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Experience using GPS units, Total Stations, GIS (e.g., ESRI products), and graphical illustration software (e.g., Adobe).
  • Experience writing technical reports and papers.
