About the position

The Data Centers Cloud Architect is a pivotal role at Expeditors, responsible for the design and health of both public and private cloud environments. This position is integral to the support of Expeditors' software development, business operations, and global logistics. As a member of the Data Centers team, the Cloud Architect will lead the evolution of the hybrid multi-cloud environment, ensuring that it meets the needs of the organization while adhering to industry standards and best practices. The role requires a collaborative approach, working closely with a highly motivated and agile team to represent cloud technologies and methodologies in architecture leadership discussions. In this role, the Cloud Architect will stay abreast of new technologies, concepts, and approaches, ensuring that Expeditors remains at the forefront of cloud innovation. The position emphasizes interaction with people over systems, highlighting the importance of communication and collaboration in achieving project goals. The Cloud Architect will provide technical leadership by coaching and mentoring cloud engineering staff, translating business requirements into effective cloud solutions. Additionally, the Cloud Architect will develop and maintain industry-standard best security practices, deliver professional proposals and design documentation, and communicate standard operating procedures and functional design specifications. A key responsibility will be to drive standardization and automation across all aspects of the cloud platform, ensuring efficiency and reliability. Regular communication with providers of cloud technologies will also be a critical aspect of this role, fostering strong partnerships and ensuring that Expeditors' cloud environments are optimized for performance and security.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to translate business requirements into functional requirements for cloud design
  • Prior experience in designing a cloud platform with multiple data centers
  • Extensive knowledge of Azure, GCP and AWS
  • Experience with on-premises Virtualization (VMWare) environments
  • Experience leading teams
  • Strong knowledge of OS and cloud platforms (i.e. Linux, Windows, Azure)
  • Skilled in DevOps processes
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Relevant certifications

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Windows and UNIX operating systems
  • Experience with third party vendor management
  • Experience and knowledge of IT operations that includes networking, identity, disaster recovery, data platforms, and governance
  • Strong understanding of how databases, networks and other critical IT functions work
