About the position

As a member of Enterprise Technology Services at Travelers, you will join a strategic and collaborative Architecture team dedicated to transforming our business and technology capabilities. This role as an Architect within the Business Insurance architecture organization involves working closely with Engineers, Technology, and Business leaders to apply your knowledge of modern technology in order to influence and innovate solutions that significantly impact the business. You will be expected to collaborate with Enterprise Architects, Business Architects, and line of business engineers to help partners and customers learn and utilize AWS services such as Athena, Glue, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, and more. Your expertise will be crucial in building solutions through technical engagements with partners and customers, as well as in migrating applications and datasets to the AWS cloud. In this position, you will guide the delivery organization in modeling and standardizing data for analytics, establish governance and control processes for successful Data Platform implementations, and create a compelling vision of a data-driven enterprise for Business Insurance. You will leverage your hands-on experience leading large-scale global data lake/warehousing and analytics projects to help the program team deliver on their objectives. Your role will also involve educating stakeholders on the right types of datastores for various use cases, creating blueprints, and assisting in engineering designs that utilize AWS Serverless and data services. You will be expected to manage and monitor data quality within the architecture and platforms, ensuring that data standards and modeling principles are adhered to throughout the process.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architects, Business Architects, and line of business engineers to help partners and customers learn and use AWS services.
  • Deliver solutions on technical engagements with partners and customers.
  • Perform Proof of Concept/s on technologies and services to support business needs.
  • Share learnings from past large-scale global data lake/warehousing and analytics projects.
  • Educate and choose the right types of datastores for the use case (NoSQL, SQL databases, Object File stores, etc.).
  • Create blueprints and assist in engineering designs leveraging AWS Serverless and data services.
  • Exhibit customer-facing skills to represent AWS well within the customer's environment and drive discussions with senior personnel regarding trade-offs and best practices.
  • Interact with different levels of the organization from development to C-Level executives.
  • Ensure data standards and modeling principles are followed in the data solutions and platforms.
  • Manage and monitor the data quality of the content in the data architecture and platforms.
  • Balance tactical vs strategic trade-offs when making decisions or proposing solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of technology engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience with DynamoDB NoSQL, Relational Database Service (RDS), Amazon EMR, Snowflake, SQL databases, and Object File stores.
  • Organizational experience in an agile operating model.
  • Established work in proof of concepts and technology.
  • Strong proven software engineering experience.
  • Supports technology target state and roadmaps aligned to short- and long-term business goals.
  • Insurance technology experience desired.
  • Strong grasp of value creation and business capability models.
  • Passionate about technology transformations.
  • Hands-on experience in the last 3 years with technology modernization initiatives including migration to cloud native and API Strategy.
  • Current experience with AWS, APIs, accelerators, and DevSecOps.
  • Cloud Architecture Certification (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or strong architecture experience on Cloud.
  • Good understanding of security and experienced with large scale technology platforms.
  • Exposure and understanding of advanced analytics techniques using ML and AI.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
  • Knowledge of AI and machine learning techniques.
