About the position

The Data Governance Architect at Stanford University will lead the curation of data assets within the Collibra-based Data Governance Center repository. This role is essential for ensuring that analysts and decision-makers have access to high-quality, well-curated data that supports their work. The architect will implement tools for metadata harvesting, coordinate governance activities, and support the migration of data assets to cloud architectures, all while reporting to the Data Governance Program Director.

Responsibilities

  • Provide frameworks, best practices, and subject matter expertise in Collibra for effective data governance solutions.
  • Work with technology and business partners to implement solutions for harvesting metadata and data lineage.
  • Conduct meetings and workshops with data stakeholders to design and build a data repository.
  • Identify, document, and prioritize governance use cases to support data strategy.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into Collibra designs and validate outcomes with users.
  • Align Data Governance Center implementation with Stanford's data governance operating model.
  • Assess, recommend, and implement capabilities using Collibra and other tools for metadata and data quality improvement.
  • Install, configure, and test metadata and lineage extraction software for the Data Governance Center.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and documentation for data governance processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or analytic field and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Collibra Ranger or Solution Architect certification.
  • In-depth knowledge of data governance and management concepts and tools.
  • Demonstrated technical skills in automating metadata extraction from enterprise data systems.
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain data governance concepts to stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and in teams.
