About the position

The Data Governance Architect position at Stanford University is a two-year fixed-term role focused on curating data assets within the Data Governance Center. The architect will lead the technical implementation of tools for metadata harvesting and data lineage, ensuring high-quality data governance practices across the university's administrative data. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance data management solutions and support the migration of data assets to cloud architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide frameworks, best practices, and subject matter expertise in Collibra for effective data governance solutions.
  • Work with technology and business partners to implement solutions for harvesting metadata and data lineage.
  • Conduct meetings and workshops with data owners and stakeholders to design a data repository.
  • Identify, document, and prioritize governance use cases to support data strategy.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into Collibra designs and validate outcomes with users.
  • Align Data Governance Center implementation with Stanford's data governance operating model.
  • Assess, recommend, and implement capabilities using Collibra and other tools for data governance.
  • Install, configure, and test metadata and lineage extraction software.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and documentation for data governance processes.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of end-to-end data governance processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or analytic field and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Collibra Ranger or Solution Architect certification.
  • In-depth knowledge of data governance and management concepts and tools.
  • Demonstrated technical skills in automating metadata extraction from enterprise data systems.
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex data environments and communicate results clearly.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple internal and external customers.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and in a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) is a plus.
