About the position

As the Director of Construction Operations at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the quality and efficiency of construction projects. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all deliverables are completed on time and within budget while assisting the project team in value engineering and pursuing green initiatives. This position requires you to execute all phases of the design process, which includes preparing physical needs assessments, estimates, and bids. You will engage with designers and coordinate details to ensure that contractors have the necessary information to carry out their work effectively. In addition to managing the design process, you will review bid proposals, recommend vendors, and assess contract documents to communicate the intended scope of work clearly. Establishing and managing job budgets and schedules will be crucial, as will reviewing invoices, monitoring lien waivers and payments, and fostering positive relationships with regulatory agencies. You will also participate in weekly construction update meetings, ensuring that quality deliverables are achieved on time and within budget. Your role will involve coordinating with university personnel, performing post-occupancy evaluations, and reinforcing a safe working environment in compliance with OSHA and other relevant requirements. The ideal candidate for this position should be dedicated to leading teams effectively and managing university processes. Proficiency in software such as Revit, AutoCAD, MS Word, Excel, and MS Project is essential, along with strong problem-solving skills. You should be capable of promoting strong relationships between contractors, suppliers, and university personnel. A self-motivated and self-managed individual with a robust work ethic and excellent communication and supervisory skills will thrive in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality deliverables on-time and within budget.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a four-year degree in a related field.
  • At least five years of construction management experience.
  • Ability to read and understand architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of the design and construction process.
  • Knowledge of applicable state, federal, and local laws and regulations.
  • Experience in preparing and monitoring complex budgets.
  • Ability to interpret and apply law, local policy, and administrative and building code procedures or requirements.
  • Ability to compile and analyze data with proficiency in industry software and technology.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Registered architect or on the path to licensure.
  • Able to pass DOT medical exam.
