About the position

The Architect role at JE Dunn Construction is a pivotal position within the Advanced Facilities Group (AFG), which focuses on high-performance projects in the Industrial and Manufacturing sectors. This role is integral to the design and construction project team, responsible for guiding projects from conception through to completion. The Architect will engage in various project types, including consumer goods, battery manufacturing, food and beverage processing, and automated distribution facilities, often utilizing an integrated design-build delivery method. The position requires collaboration with Industrial/Manufacturing owners and project teams to ensure the successful development of design documents and specifications, aligning with JE Dunn's strategy, vision, and values. In this role, the Architect will participate in creating design solutions through feasibility studies and conceptual design phases. Responsibilities include developing design concepts and documents during the schematic and design development phases, as well as direct involvement in producing construction documents and specifications. The Architect will research and specify materials, finishes, products, and fixtures, ensuring that all design concepts adhere to established standards and technical expertise. Additionally, the role involves preparing design presentations for clients and stakeholders, coordinating with project teams throughout the design and construction process, and providing construction administration services. The Architect will also observe construction activities to ensure the successful execution of design intent, making this role crucial for the overall success of the projects undertaken by JE Dunn Construction.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the creation of design solutions for various project types through feasibility studies and conceptual design activities.
  • Develops design concepts and documents during the concept schematic and design development phases.
  • Direct involvement in the development and production of construction documents and specifications.
  • Researches, specifies, and details materials, finishes, products, and fixtures utilizing manufacturer product data.
  • Develops, modifies, and reviews design concepts, production drawings, and construction documents according to established standards.
  • Participates in design and operational research, building and systems programming, site and building analysis, and report documentation.
  • Prepares design presentations to clients, communities, and other stakeholders, including public agencies.
  • Partners with project teams throughout the design and construction process.
  • Coordinates directly with clients in the day-to-day project management of design development and provides construction administration services.
  • Observes construction activities and works with contractors to ensure successful execution of design intent.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or related field (Required).
  • Degree from a NAAB accredited architecture program (Preferred).
  • 5+ years architectural experience (Preferred).
  • Cross-functional knowledge of key engineering disciplines (Architectural, Civil, Structural, MEP) and relevant trades.
  • General construction experience (Preferred).
  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct effective presentations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.
  • Thorough knowledge of project processes and how each supports the successful completion of a project.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Suite, AutoCAD, Revit, 3DS Max, and all Adobe programs and/or Google SketchUp.
  • Experience with U.S. building design codes and material specific standards.
  • Ability to think in a highly structured manner along all design disciplines while also having creativity to develop specialized solutions.
