About the position

The Architect or Design Technician will lead project development and manage architectural teams from inception to completion, focusing on federal government projects. This role requires a blend of technical proficiency, project management skills, and the ability to foster client relationships while ensuring design integrity and compliance with standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project development and project teams from inception to completion.
  • Direct the architectural team and integrate engineering teams on projects of varying scale and budget.
  • Lead project documentation efforts with knowledge of contract documents, specifications, shop-drawings, and submittal review.
  • Delegate, train, monitor progress and coordination, and conduct QA/QC.
  • Conduct construction observation and administration, understanding construction costs, budgeting, and value engineering.
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships and assist with the development of emerging professionals.
  • Organize and lead meetings involving internal and external clients/partners related to architectural development.
  • Review contractor questions and submittals to ensure compliance with design intent and solutions.
  • Conduct on-site observations and document site reviews, approving quality of materials and work.
  • Process submittals/substitution requests during construction and address RFIs.

Requirements

  • Accredited professional degree in Architecture.
  • 8-15+ years of post-graduate professional experience, including recent experience as a project manager leading federal government projects.
  • Current architect license/registration; LEED accreditation is a plus.
  • Experience with retail, grocery, and commercial projects is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to build engaging client relationships and manage consultant teams.
  • Ability to define and drive project milestones and facilitate project meetings.
  • Working knowledge of Revit, Project Management Software, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office suite, Bluebeam, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in construction observation and construction administration.
  • Knowledge of codes and standards applicable to the design of projects.
  • Strong design skills and technical proficiency in SketchUp, Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite.
