About the position

The Architect or Design Technician role at Cushing Terrell involves leading project development and managing architectural teams from inception to completion. The position requires a strong background in architecture, project management, and client engagement, particularly in federal government projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing project documentation, ensuring compliance with design intent, and conducting site observations, while also having the potential for supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project development and project teams from inception to completion.
  • Direct the architectural team and integrate engineering teams on projects of varying scale and budget.
  • Lead project documentation efforts with a deep knowledge of contract documents, specifications, shop-drawings, and submittal review.
  • Delegate, train, monitor progress and coordination, and conduct QA/QC.
  • Conduct construction observation and administration, understanding construction costs, budgeting, and value engineering.
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships and assist with the development of emerging professionals.
  • Organize and lead meetings involving internal and external clients/partners related to architectural development.
  • Review contractor questions and submittals to ensure compliance with design intent and solutions.
  • Conduct on-site observations and document site reviews, approving quality of materials and work.
  • Process submittals/substitution requests during construction and address RFI.

Requirements

  • Accredited professional degree in Architecture.
  • 8-15+ years of post-graduate professional experience, including recent experience as a project manager leading federal government projects.
  • Current architect license/registration; LEED accredited is a plus.
  • Experience and familiarity with retail, grocery, and commercial projects is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to build engaging client relationships, manage consultant teams, and take responsibility for fees, budget, staffing, and billing.
  • Ability to define and drive project milestones, facilitate project meetings, and effectively coach and mentor team members.
  • Working knowledge of Revit, Project Management Software, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office suite, Bluebeam, and Outlook.
