About the position

As an Architectural Designer at CDM Smith, you will be part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team responsible for designing large-scale water and wastewater plants, transit facilities, and various other architectural projects. This role involves working closely with senior architects to develop building designs, prepare construction documents, and mentor junior staff, all while ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Senior and Project Architects to plan, program, and formulate building design and prepare design presentation and construction contract documents.
  • Coordinate building design and construction contract documents with architectural and multi-discipline engineering staff.
  • Mentor and guide junior architectural staff on multi-discipline projects.
  • Research and participate in the selection of construction materials, technologies, and methodologies for detailing and specifications.
  • Evaluate compliance with applicable planning, zoning, and building codes and regulations, including coordination with agencies having jurisdiction.
  • Collect background project information and documentation including 'as-built' data, including field observation as necessary.
  • Review technical submittals for projects under construction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture.
  • 4 years of related experience with a Registered Architect (RA) license, or 4 years of experience with 1 year working under an RA or other professional meeting NCARB standards.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Solid technical knowledge and design application knowledge.
  • Solid knowledge of technologies and methodologies in the use of construction materials.
  • Solid knowledge of Building Information Modeling and software, preferably Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with rendering software programs.
  • Basic understanding of Bluebeam Revu.
  • Solid knowledge of basic business office software (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
