About the position

An Architectural Designer & Draftsperson will design and model work for our clients and Project Managers. The responsibilities of an Architectural Designer & Draftsperson include preparing residential construction drawings from schematic design to permit level drawings construction documents for moderately sized residential renovations, additions, and new homes. This role requires a blend of creativity and technical skills to ensure that designs meet client specifications while adhering to industry standards. The Architectural Designer & Draftsperson will develop concurrent projects from schematic design through permit filing. Typical responsibilities include developing conceptual and detailed designs, modelling existing and proposed conditions, preparing project specific sections, elevations, and details, creating project schedules, laying out sheets and related views, and annotating and dimensioning drawings. The individual will report to the Preconstruction & Design Services Manager, keeping him/her updated on project status and schedule, and will work closely with him/her on design/drafting time estimates. The role requires the ability to work independently or with a small team as needed. Close collaboration with the Wood Shop coordinator and Preconstruction & Design Services Manager is essential to produce precise millwork fabrication/shop drawings in a timely manner, as the shop relies on the design staff to move projects forward. The Architectural Designer & Draftsperson will also coordinate with project consultants including engineers, vendors, subcontractors, town officials, and other consultants as directed. Engaging CA clients, both independently and alongside project managers, may also be part of the responsibilities. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for documenting as-built conditions, collecting and transposing all necessary field measurements, and verifying the accuracy and precision of all data collected. Accurate tracking of project hours through Cape Associates' electronic timekeeping system is also required.
