About the position

The Architectural Designer - Healthcare at SmithGroup will be responsible for creating and developing planning and design concepts, supporting senior planners and architects on large projects, and preparing architectural drawings and specifications. This role involves mentoring junior staff and assisting in construction administration, ensuring that design concepts align with building codes and external regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Create and develop planning and design concepts for healthcare projects.
  • Prepare and coordinate architectural drawings, renderings, specifications, and design assignments under general supervision.
  • Relate building design concepts to building codes, zoning ordinances, and other external issues.
  • Consult with manufacturers and research materials and products for projects.
  • Prepare and create presentation drawings and graphics for internal and external presentations.
  • Mentor and train junior staff members.
  • Assist in construction administration, including responding to RFIs, preparing sketches and addendums, and visiting construction sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in architectural design.
  • LEED AP preferred; must be eligible to take the Architectural Registration Examination within a few years.
  • Working knowledge of engineering systems and ability to engage with professionals in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • On-the-job experience using Revit to produce construction documents.
  • High proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
