About the position

The Architectural Designer II position is designed for a creative and ambitious individual who is committed to design excellence, sustainability, and innovation. The role involves working collaboratively within a team of architects and designers to shape architectural projects across various typologies and scales, serving a diverse clientele including educational institutions, commercial developers, and government entities. The ideal candidate will be passionate about design, capable of working independently and as part of a team, and will contribute to both project success and office initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for specific technical design aspects of assigned major projects, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meet the client's needs.
  • Provides professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large complex projects.
  • Independently applies advanced architectural concepts and designs.
  • Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
  • May provide technical guidance to less experienced architects/architectural staff.
  • Collaborate with project teams during project design phases including programming, concept development, schematic design, design development, and construction documentation.
  • Develop design sketches, renderings, models, graphics, presentation materials, analysis, and construction drawings and schedules.
  • Participate in the construction administration of projects including jobsite visits, review of submittals, and responding to contractor questions.
  • Communicate and engage with a wide variety of stakeholders including clients, owners, users, team members, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to achieve overall project objectives.
  • Contribute to office activities, initiatives, and participation in continuous learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree from an NAAB accredited Architecture program.
  • 6+ years of professional experience in an architectural practice or related field.
  • Excellent graphic, drawing, and presentation capabilities.
  • Advanced level knowledge of design, modeling, and graphic software (Revit, Rhino, Enscape, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.).
  • Intermediate level understanding of architectural specifications and their relationship to construction documents.
  • Proficient understanding of basic codes, sustainability requirements, and their implementation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a model building shop is strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to environmental analysis applications such as ClimateStudio, Sefaira, Insight360, and Lady Bug/Honeybee is a plus.
  • Commitment to sustainable design principles and interest in achieving accreditation in LEED AP, WELL AP, and/or Green Globes.
