About the position

The Architectural Designer III position at Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all phases of architectural work, from conceptual design through to construction administration. This position requires a blend of aesthetic sensibility and technical expertise, as the designer will assist project teams in developing both the aesthetic and technical aspects of architectural designs. The role involves preparing architectural design and construction documents, ensuring that all work meets the high standards expected by clients and regulatory bodies. In this role, the Architectural Designer III will utilize computer-assisted design software, including CAD, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Revit, to create detailed project designs and plans. Conducting thorough code research is also a critical function of this position, ensuring that all designs comply with relevant regulations. Quality control is paramount, and the designer will be responsible for conducting reviews throughout the project lifecycle to maintain the integrity of the work. Collaboration is key in this role, as the designer will work closely with other designers, consultants, and staff to achieve the goals set by clients. The designer will independently advance architectural concepts and designs, providing technical guidance to less experienced architects and architectural staff. Participation in conceptual design is expected, along with full support throughout the project, including direct presentations to clients regarding technical and design solutions. The Architectural Designer III will coordinate with the Project Manager to supervise the design and technical delivery of the project teams, ensuring that all aspects of the project are executed effectively and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project teams in development of the aesthetic and technical design and preparation of architectural design and construction documents
  • Utilize computer-assisted design software and equipment to prepare project designs and plans - specifically CAD, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Revit
  • Conduct code research
  • Ensure quality control reviews throughout project completion
  • Collaborate with designers, consultants, and staff to meet clients' goals
  • Independently advance architectural concepts and designs
  • Responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluation and recommendation of design solutions that best meet the client's needs
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced architects/architectural staff
  • Participate in the conceptual design and provide full support through the entire project
  • Present directly to the client on technical and design solutions
  • Coordinate with Project Manager to directly supervise the teams' design and technical delivery

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Architecture or Bachelors of Architecture
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with computer-assisted design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Sketch-Up
