DLR Group's Design team has an opening for an Architectural Designer in our Minneapolis office. As an Architectural Designer at DLR Group, you will collaborate with our cross-functional design teams to develop designs from conception through design development, prepare construction documents, specifications, team coordination, and support the project team through construction administration for a variety of project types and sizes. You will partner directly with the Project Manager to ensure the financial health of the project, the quality of project documents, claim prevention, team collaboration and communication. Additionally, you will lead the cross-functional design disciplines in developing technical solutions. The successful candidate will provide planning, design, and coordination of different size projects up to large complex projects. You will independently apply advanced architectural concepts and designs as well as carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. You will coordinate drawings and specifications directly with the specification writer and assist in preparing sections as assigned. Engage and guide innovative idea generation within the integrated team in pursuit of design excellence. Review cost estimates for alignment with the design. Provide technical guidance to less experienced design/architectural staff. Apply DLR Group practice standards to project deliverables. Demonstrate a strong foundation of comprehensive design and technical skillsets. Engage and guide innovative idea generation within the integrated team in pursuit of design excellence. Actively lead collaboration at project and integrated team level by generating design ideas and solutions. Effectively communicate with project team members through timely and appropriate written, oral and visual means. Engage peers and specialty experts to proactively develop holistic solutions. Participate in client presentations. Meet deliverable deadlines to maintain overall project schedule. Manage time in alignment with project workplan. Understand construction and material costs in alignment with project budget.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Professional Degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  • 4-8 years of professional experience in a commercial architecture firm.
  • Proficiency with computer drawing, modeling, and rendering software; SketchUp experience is preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced Revit experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign).
  • Positive and entrepreneurial spirit underlined by a strong work ethic.
  • Desire to continually learn, grow, and pursue design excellence in a fun environment.
  • Proficient in executing technical drawings and construction documents.
  • Experience with exterior architecture and full coordination with interiors.

  • Demonstrated interest in sustainable building design
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and parametric design software, such as Rhino and Grasshopper
  • Proficiency with visualization software, such as Lumion or Enscape
  • Knowledge of QA/QC process and building codes
  • Experience working in the hospitality sector.
