About the position

NBBJ Columbus is seeking a junior Architectural Designer to join our team. This role is designed for an architectural designer who possesses strong conceptual, visual, and communication skills, and is eager to work in a highly collaborative and design-oriented studio. As a junior designer at NBBJ, you will be responsible for supporting design efforts on various projects, learning and applying design quality standards, contributing to a collaborative design environment, and developing your design skills through active project involvement and mentorship. In this position, you will participate in defining quality expectations through design reviews and discussions, bringing fresh ideas to encourage innovation and creativity in design efforts. You will assist in design tasks across projects, gaining valuable experience from concept to construction. Your role will also involve participating in reviews to understand and support high-design quality, helping to prepare and present designs, and learning to tell compelling design stories. Networking internally with peers and externally by attending events will enhance brand awareness and client engagement. You will learn and apply the latest design tools and methods to projects, support proper design processes in collaboration with project managers and project architects, and develop your design skills across various practices, focusing on a specific typology. Additionally, you will learn about project delivery and collaborate with different disciplines for integrated design.

Requirements

• 2 - 5 years of experience in architectural design.
• Bachelor's Degree in Architecture (B Arch) or Master's Degree in Architecture (M Arch) desired.
• Deep understanding of high-performance building concepts, with LEED Accreditation or within 18 months of hire.
• Strong conceptual design and schematic design skills.
• Strong verbal and graphic communication skills and ability to work within diverse teams of designers.
• Proficiency in Revit with 3D modeling skills; knowledge of Sketchup and/or Rhino is desired.
• Working knowledge of Adobe Suite; including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
• Interest and experience in Grasshopper workflows are beneficial.
• Ability to participate in multiple projects and manage deadlines.
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative, open environment.
• Willingness to travel if the project requires.
