About the position

As an Architectural Designer at Gensler, you will leverage your creativity and technical expertise to create aesthetically pleasing and functional designs for a variety of projects. This mid-level position emphasizes collaboration and design excellence, contributing to innovative and sustainable architectural solutions that enhance user experiences and positively impact communities.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Design Director, Studio Director, Design Manager, and Design team to develop architectural solutions from conceptual level through construction documentation.
  • Render and produce high-quality visualizations and diagrams to effectively communicate design intent.
  • Develop and study design options through sketches, 3D models, and iterations based on initial concepts.
  • Translate design concepts into actionable schemes, ensuring clarity and viability.
  • Collaborate with a Project Architect to develop detailed drawing sets and technical documents.
  • Produce detailed drawings and technical documents, maintaining accuracy across layouts, elevations, sections, and construction documents.
  • Direct preparation of conceptual designs, space plans, presentations, and design development.
  • Mentor and coach junior architectural staff.
  • Lead coordination with Design/Technical team and Project/Design Manager(s).
  • Coordinate with client team, project manager, construction manager, and others to develop design deliverables and respond to RFIs.
  • Responsible for coordination and quality control of design and construction documents.
  • Review and manage project program and design deliverables, resolving complex design issues with innovative solutions.
  • Support project sustainability targets and engage in delivering them throughout project phases.
  • Implement sustainable design strategies and investigate solutions to sustainable design challenges.
  • Lead climate-focused analysis and studies for each project.
  • Contribute to office activities, initiatives, and learning programs.

Requirements

  • Professional degree in Architecture with a rigorous portfolio of professional experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant architecture and design experience, with a strong background in multiple building typologies.
  • Proficient in design modeling/visualization tools including Revit, Rhino, and Enscape; experience with Excel and computational tools like Grasshopper/Dynamo is a plus.
  • Proficient in production software including Adobe Creative Suite; experience with video/animation software such as After Effects and Premiere is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong graphic and visualization skills with proficiency in design software to meet aesthetic and technical goals.
  • Exceptional communication skills to articulate design concepts and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Creative and original thinking demonstrated through a strong creative and technical portfolio.
  • Construction documentation and/or design detail development experience preferred.
  • Knowledge in sustainable design principles required; LEED, WELL, Fitwel or other rating systems accreditation preferable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working on sustainable design projects, especially those with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel, or Net Zero Building certification.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships across the firm, with clients, and with other key partners.
