About the position

The Architectural Designer/Registered Architect at BL Companies Inc. will play a crucial role in the technical aspects of design production and the management of construction documents. This position is essential for ensuring that all project deliverables meet the required standards and specifications. The successful candidate will act as the primary point of contact for technical questions related to projects, collaborating closely with MEP and Structural teams to ensure seamless coordination throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires a strong understanding of construction materials and methods, particularly in metal stud, masonry, and steel construction, to produce accurate and viable construction details. In this position, the Architectural Designer/Registered Architect will be responsible for producing complete and accurate construction documents based on both prototype design templates and unique one-off projects. The ability to work under tight deadlines and manage quick turnarounds is essential. The candidate will also be tasked with reviewing and implementing applicable codes and regulations across various jurisdictions, ensuring compliance and quality in all deliverables. Additionally, the role involves formulating space planning and schematic design solutions that align with client needs, budget constraints, and specification requirements. The candidate will be expected to update documents as necessary to incorporate internal quality control measures, supervisor feedback, client-driven changes, and modifications required by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Furthermore, the Architectural Designer/Registered Architect will assist in the construction administration process, which includes reviewing shop drawings and responding to Requests for Information (RFIs).

Responsibilities

  • Produce complete and accurate construction documents based on prototype design templates and one-off projects.
  • Integrate an understanding of materials and methods into construction documents, focusing on metal stud, masonry, and steel construction.
  • Review and implement applicable codes and regulations across various jurisdictions.
  • Formulate space planning and schematic design solutions to meet client needs, budget, and specification requirements.
  • Integrate MEP and structural systems into construction documents for full coordination with architectural design.
  • Update documents to integrate internal quality control, supervisor redmarks, client-driven changes, and changes required by the AHJ.
  • Assist with the construction administration process, including the review of shop drawings and RFIs.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with the production of commercial architecture projects.
  • Experience compiling a set of construction documents in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Experience designing/updating projects in Revit.
  • 8+ years of experience with commercial/retail/industrial production design for Registered Architects.
  • RA Licensure.
  • Experience with construction administration.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff members.
