About the position

UMIAQ Design is seeking an architectural intern to collaborate on building design projects across Alaska. The role involves working with a small team of professionals in a collaborative office setting in Anchorage, focusing on developing building design and construction drawings, ensuring compliance with building codes, and engaging with clients and other professionals in the design process.

Responsibilities

• Develop building design and construction drawings with Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit software.
• Stay current on materials, building technologies, and construction methods.
• Select and evaluate building products and materials.
• Ensure that designs comply with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations.
• Read and understand construction documents and develop a set of construction documents.
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and other professionals involved in the design process.
• Review construction materials and techniques to ensure they meet quality standards.
• Collaborate with clients to determine project requirements and design parameters.
• Assist in the development and presentation of design proposals and designs.
• Occasional travel to remote jobsites in Alaska accessible via small aircraft or other small motorized vehicle.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's in Architecture from an accredited program.
• 1-3+ years of related work experience in an architectural office preferred.
• NCARB IDP in process is desirable.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit Design software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes and regulations.

Nice-to-haves

• Arctic or northern design experience is desirable.
