About the position

SmithGroup is seeking an Architectural Designer to join their Milwaukee office. This role involves creating and developing planning and design concepts, preparing architectural drawings, and supporting senior planners and architects on large projects. The position emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to sustainability in design.

Responsibilities

  • Create and develop planning and design concepts.
  • Support senior planners and architects on large projects.
  • Prepare and coordinate architectural drawings, renderings, specifications, and design assignments under general supervision.
  • Relate building design concepts to building codes, zoning ordinances, and other external issues.
  • Consult with manufacturers; research and propose materials and products.
  • Prepare and create presentation drawings and/or graphics for internal and external presentations.
  • Mentor and train junior staff.
  • Assist in construction administration including responding to RFIs, preparing sketches and addendums, and visiting construction sites to gather information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or equivalent.
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience.
  • LEED AP preferred.
  • Working knowledge of engineering systems and ability to engage with professionals in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • On-the-job experience using Revit to produce construction documents.
  • High proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
