About the position

The Architectural Designer position at HED is designed for an individual who is passionate about collaboration, critical thinking, and professional growth, with a strong interest in great design. This role involves working across various market sectors, including Mission Critical, Healthcare, Housing, PreK-12 schools, Higher Education, and Science and Technology. The ideal candidate will approach this role with enthusiasm, excel in a hybrid work environment, and work under the supervision of a Project Architect. They should be adaptable and enjoy applying their skills throughout all phases of project development, from the initial stages to construction administration. In this role, the Architectural Designer will be responsible for assisting the Project Architect in ensuring design and technical quality. This includes collaborating with other consultants and supporting the delivery of professional services as defined by HED's Design Process guidelines. The designer will assist the Project Architect in directing staff and developing strategies for project delivery, while also understanding the design intent and effectively communicating it through documentation with limited direction. Responsibilities will also include conducting code research, material and product research, participating in project meetings, coordinating with project team disciplines, performing submittal reviews during bidding and construction administration, and participating in technical reviews throughout the project phases to meet HED's quality expectations. The position may require the designer to assume the Project Architect's responsibilities for short periods and perform other duties as assigned by the Project Architect, Project Manager, or Architecture Design Talent Leader. Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Architect to ensure design and technical quality.
  • Collaborate with other consultants.
  • Support the delivery of professional services as defined by the HED Design Process guidelines.
  • Assist the Project Architect with directing staff and developing strategies for project delivery.
  • Understand the design intent and communicate it through documentation with limited direction.
  • Assist with required code research for project assignments.
  • Assist with material and product research as required for project development.
  • Participate in internal and/or external project meetings as required by scope and schedule.
  • Coordinate with project team disciplines as needed by the project.
  • Perform submittal reviews as assigned during bidding and construction administration.
  • Participate in technical reviews through all phases of the project to meet HED expectations for quality and project performance.
  • Assume Project Architect's responsibilities for short periods of time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Architect, Project Manager, or Architecture Design Talent Leader.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Architecture (4-year) degree.
  • Pursuit of Architecture license through the ARE Licensure in local office jurisdiction preferred.
  • Familiarity with and experience navigating the Building Code.
  • LEED Accredited preferred.
  • Minimum five years' experience in A/E industry.
  • Fundamental understanding of the coordination aspects and related requirements of all design disciplines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Desire to learn how to motivate and mentor staff and delegate work assignments.
  • Proficient in BIM/Revit as well as Microsoft Word, Excel.
  • Experience in Revizto, Rhino, Bluebeam, Concept Board.
  • Very detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible.
  • Ability to work well with others under deadline situations.
  • Commitment to the principles of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Rhinoceros 3D.
  • LEED Certification.
