About the position

The Architectural Designer at UL Solutions will play a crucial role in the Real Estate, Facilities and Construction Team, focusing on the development of complex laboratory buildings and workplace renovations. This position involves collaboration with various stakeholders to gather project requirements, develop concept designs, and ensure successful project execution under the guidance of the Architect Manager. The role is hybrid, requiring three days a week at the Northbrook, IL corporate headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Support all aspects of project development as part of the Global Design & Construction Team.
  • Collaborate with the facility team to gather project requirements and program details.
  • Develop concept designs, layouts, and 3D models under the guidance of the Architect Manager.
  • Coordinate closely with internal stakeholders and external design consultants to ensure project alignment.
  • Assist the Real Estate Architect Manager on projects alongside engineers and CAD planners.
  • Utilize knowledge of detailing, building materials, building codes, and construction technologies.
  • Coordinate design through all phases of the project under the Architect Manager's guidance.
  • Prepare and develop conceptual and schematic designs in collaboration with the Architect Manager.
  • Implement CAD standards aligned with industry best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records and manage drawing archives.
  • Assist in coordinating MEP systems for laboratories to support testing requirements.
  • Collaborate with the construction team to translate business requirements into space plans.
  • Develop and maintain standard guidelines for testing laboratories and offices.
  • Engage in transparent communication with stakeholders to ensure smooth project coordination.
  • Identify potential challenges and provide creative solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or a related field.
  • Minimum of 0-3 years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in architectural design software and tools, including 3D modeling and rendering software.
  • Strong understanding of sustainability principles in architectural design.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
