About the position

As an Architectural Designer at Lamar Johnson Collaborative (LJC), you will play a pivotal role in contributing to a variety of design projects that are integral to our innovative Industrial Design practice. This position requires you to engage in research and analysis to support the practice's leadership team, with a focus on expanding our presence and portfolio in Kansas City through strategic project pursuits and fostering client relationships. You will be part of a collaborative team that works across various disciplines within LJC and its parent company, Clayco, ensuring that projects are delivered with a high level of quality and integration across development, design, and construction. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the delivery of projects from the initial design concept through to the final completion of deliverables and submissions. You will be expected to conduct thorough analyses of various data sets, develop and document design and urban planning concepts, and create compelling project presentations. Coordination with a multi-disciplinary design team is essential, as is assisting with project management and serving as a key liaison for clients. You will provide technical assistance on planning-related topics, navigate the regulatory environment, and engage in urban and site design for a diverse range of project types and scales. In this role, you will also attend meetings with both public and private-sector clients, including governmental entities, and represent LJC at community and civic events. Familiarity with public engagement tools and processes is crucial, as you will be responsible for developing intentional civic and public engagement strategies. Responsibilities

  • Deliver projects from design concept through final completion of deliverables and submissions with high quality.
  • Conduct analysis of various data sets and develop design and urban planning concepts.
  • Create project presentations to communicate design ideas effectively.
  • Coordinate with a multi-disciplinary design team to ensure project success.
  • Assist with project management and serve as a key client liaison.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or a related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant, demonstrable experience.
  • Demonstrated competence with AutoCAD/Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, GIS, and 3D modeling tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to graphically explain ideas.
  • Competent presentation skills.
  • Consistent understanding of the delivery and implementation of design thinking.
