About the position

WSP is seeking an Architectural Designer to join their Property and Buildings team in Portland, Maine. This role involves supporting architects, engineers, and project managers in various aspects of building design and construction, focusing on creating functional and sustainable solutions for both public and private sector projects. The designer will assist in preparing detailed drawings, conducting site analyses, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of detailed drawings showing both the external and internal appearance and structure of building projects.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from various sources for project development, design, and construction.
  • Conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions to ensure compliance with applicable rules and standards.
  • Input building technologies and concepts to enhance safety and functionality in architectural design.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on structural soundness.
  • Prepare visualizations using software and technical drawings, including 2D/3D illustrations.
  • Offer input and analysis on design concepts and construction activities to technical staff and project managers.
  • Collaborate with other architects, engineers, and professionals on various building projects.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks and responsibilities.
  • Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or a closely related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience in architecture.
  • Knowledge of architectural principles, practices, and processes related to project work.
  • Familiarity with building planning, drawing standards, and construction management.
  • Competent creative, visualization, and technical drawing skills.
  • Understanding of sustainability concepts and green building design.
  • Familiarity with building and construction laws, codes, and compliance practices.
  • Strong analytical mindset and sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, and design software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, REVIT, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite.
