About the position

Stantec is seeking an Architectural Historian to support projects in the Southeastern US, primarily based out of the Nashville, TN office. This role involves researching and developing historic contexts, preparing architectural descriptions, conducting fieldwork, and assisting with various historic preservation projects. The position offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with a focus on safety, quality, and ethics.

Responsibilities

• Research and develop historic contexts
• Prepare written architectural descriptions and evaluations of significance
• Perform fieldwork tasks, including photographing resources and using a tablet for data collection
• Conduct archival research online and at libraries and repositories
• Prepare inventory forms and assist with technical reports
• Support local and National Register of Historic Places nominations, historic preservation plans, and educational materials.

Requirements

• Graduate degree or certificate in public history, heritage conservation, architectural history, historic preservation, planning, or related field
• Basic knowledge of cultural resources management and Section 106 compliance
• Familiarity with Southeastern historic structure types and styles
• Experience writing building descriptions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
• Valid driver's license and good driving record

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience as an architectural historian or built environment specialist in cultural resources management
